Meeting up with my friends Mash and Debs in Singapore!

After a delayed flight and a confusing "self check-in" at my hostel, met up with my friends Mash and Debs, at Merely Ice Cream for some amazing local flavours, followed by a quick night tour of the area.

I woke up rather late the next day due to the jet lag, but headed over to "gardens by the bay". As well as the outdoor gardens, which feature the renowned "super trees", I visited the two glass domes, which were very impressive. Hihglights were the japanese cherry blossoms and the tallest indoor waterfall in the world. I headed over to Chinatown and had a wonder. Incredibly, within chinatown they have a chinese temple, a hindu temple, a church and a mosque- something that reflect the multi-culturalism here. I met Mash, who took me to the top of a public block of flats for views over the city. It was fascinating to see the stark contrast between the old fashioned chinese buildings and the super modern central district. I tried a few local dishes- sugar cane juice, chicken floss bun, custard bun, a waffle flavoured with local spice and a slice of ice cream in some rainbow bread (forgotten the name!). We met up with Debs and had an explore around the marina area. We were lucky to stumble upon some incredible musicians who had formed songs out of some spoken word. We made it across the bay just in time to watch the super-tree night show- a spectacle where they light up the trees along with music. We then ran across to catch the show in the bay- they have incredible fountains, lasers and lights! On our way home we tried "pratta", an indian roti, along with a "milo dinosaur" and a rose flavoured drink.

I spent my final morning in little india before meeting Mash at a Hawker Centre for lunch- I tried a couple of classic singapore dishes (the names of which I've forgotten!). After lunch, I had a wonder around Clarke Quay and Fort Canning Hill Park and then headed to the Raffles Hotel. I'd been informed that I should try a Singapore Sling here, as this is where it was invented, however ran away fast when I realised it would set me back the equivalent of 16 pounds! Final stop was 'Kampong Glam', the malay quarter. Here there were some funky and brightly coloured buildings and some fun shops, s well as an impressive mosque. I met Debs at "The Bravery", Mash and Debs' favourite cafe before heading across to the airport and saying a sad goodbye.

A huge thank you to Mash and Debs for hosting me- was so great to see you guys!
